Cheryl Knox of White Light Stained Glass Studio In 1975, Cheryl Knox received a scholarship to the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio, and finished with a B.F.A. from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. After several years of making ethereal landscapes with soft pastels, she moved from Pa. to N.C. and studied stained glass. Knox began working with colored glass to create images, in addition to her landscape pastels. Stained glass is a beautiful medium with endless creative potential, as endless as the varieties of colored glass available with their different reflective properties. The interaction between sunlight and incandescent lighting proved spellbinding and addictive to the artist. Using crystals and beveled glass adds another aesthetic dimension to a sunlit glass design in a window: cascades of rainbows dancing across a room. Artist's statement: Starting with an original and imaginative composition, then bringing it to fruition while striving to make it the most exciting, elegant, sometimes whimsical, work of art possible, is my goal, whether pastel landscapes, stained glass, or photography. With all works of art, I take great care to ensure a long-lasting investment. Original design art work in stained glass comes with a price. Working with glass is very time consuming and the necessary supplies, equipment and materials are expensive. There is so much that goes into a stained glass creation---even with the smaller creations. I love glass with an iridescent, rainbow-like finish, glass of varied textures, and red glass, and these are of high cost per sq. foot. People are amazed to learn red glass contains 24 K gold to achieve the color. The crystals I use are of the highest quality possible, usually Swarovski, to achieve the rainbows I desire and expect. They are worth every penny. The art of stained glass is an acquired skill. The more you read, the more you learn; the more you do, the more you know. It is an investment that, with proper care, should stand the test of time. Cheryl Knox Web Site email Cheryl Knox |
